The Town of Stokesdale is currently looking for a Budget Officer. This is a government position as described in the NCGS 159-9. It is a part time position only requiring approximately 16 hours per week. You may be asked to attend budget meetings during budget season or Town Council meetings once a month as needed.

Budget Officer Description of Work

The Budget Officer works with the Town Clerk/Finance Officer to implement budgeting and financial record keeping, procedures to ensure efficient coordination of various departmental, grant, and designated accounts, maintains accurate information regarding the financial status of the Town, and advises immediate supervisor regarding financial matters.

Other job responsibilities include:

Implements budget revisions and/or reclassifications as instructed

Processes monthly and/or quarterly allotment requests

Reviewing reconciliations of cash and salary control balances

Finalizing monthly and year-end close-out procedures

Produces monthly financial reports for review during the monthly Town Council meetings.

Ensuring funding/revenue streams are appropriately maintained and deadlines for applications are properly met

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Thorough knowledge of current Quick Books programs

Thorough knowledge of fiscal/budgetary theories and methodology

Thorough knowledge of Federal/State policies

Considerable knowledge of office procedures, organizational hierarchy and quality assurance to assure adherence to set procedures and guidelines

Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Excel

Experience with contract monitoring

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

2 years of Budget Office Experience preferred

Accounting or related field, from an accredited institution and at least two years of experience preferably including experience in accounting or budgeting;  An equivalent combination of training and experience.
